"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them."
Welcome to April McPherson's online portfolio. I am currently a senior (Class of 2016) in the Biomedical Engineering program at the University of Cincinnati.
Originally from Canton, Ohio, my name is April McPherson and I am a senior studying Biomedical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. I have chosen the research track, rather than medical devices, and am pursuing my interests in sports biomechanics. Throughout my time as an undergrad, I have been involved in ACL-focused research with the Sports Biodynamics department at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. I also proudly "represented the C" as a member of the University's track and field team for the first three years of my undergraduate studies. After graduation (April graduates in April!), I will be enjoying two months of freedom before moving to Rochester, Minnesota to pursue my PhD in Biomedical Engineering and Physiology at the Mayo Clinic.
Outside of school, I love to be active and go on outdoor adventures. Running is one of my favorite things to do; not only is it a great way to exercise, but it also is a wonderful way to release any stress I have and to simply enjoy the beauty of nature. When I do find some free time, my other hobbies include cooking, photography, volunteering, and of course traveling. My family and friends are the most important influences in my life, as they are always supportive and encouraging in everything I do and strive for. They are my rock, the ones I always know, that no matter what, will be there for me and help me overcome any obstacles standing in my path.
I would describe myself as a driven, hardworking person. I always set goals for myself to strive towards and to achieve. Without goals to work toward, it is very easy to wander astray and lose sight of what is important and what you want to do in life. Currently, my overarching goal is to pursue a career in the field of sports biomechanics, either in the medical field or in industry. Due to my athletic background, my career goals are focused on having a meaningful impact on athletes' careers, through improving performance and decreasing injury risk. Many of my aspirations and experiences are aimed at fulfilling this mission. The University of Cincinnati College of Engineering and Applied Science school and especially the co-op program are giving me a solid educational foundation and applicable experiences on which to build the foundation my long-term career. Aside from my career, I would love to be a mother and a wife.
I hope you enjoy visiting my other pages to learn about my experiences throughout my four years at UC.
